New products and 'strong' scientific programme for BCLA clinical conference

Alcon supports 13 clinical presentations and posters at this month’s event

New products and strong scientific programme for BCLA clinical conference
Alcon will present its latest product portfolio in contact lens and contact lens care, as well as a strong clinical programme, at this month’s British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) clinical conference and exhibition (29–31 May, ACC Liverpool).

At the exhibition, on its stand (45), Alcon will introduce ‘AOSept Plus with HydraGlyde Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution’ which was launched recently. The preservative-free product combines the original AOSept Plus Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution with ‘breakthrough HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix’ technology, enabling lasting moisture surrounding the contact lens.

Alcon’s head of professional affairs for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Inma Perez, said: “Comfort through technology will dominate Alcon’s programme and stand this year.”

Ms Perez explained: “Contact lens discomfort is the most common cause of complaints and dropouts among soft contact lens wearers. Our objective is to show how our research and development is addressing this issue with improved permeability and wettability technologies in contact lens and lens care, and consistent surface performance of our monthly disposables.”

She added: “Unlike wetting agents from other solutions that may not stay on the lens, our ‘HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix’ embeds itself on and within the lens surface to promote moisture and comfort even on the longest days.”

Alcon will also showcase its contact lens innovations, developed to cater to the ‘individual needs of today’s busy and demanding wearers’ with Dailies Total1, Dailies AquaComfort Plus Toric, Dailies AquaComfort Plus Multifocal, and Air Optix Colors, in plus and minus powers. Delegates will be able to try out the full range, and learn the science behind each contact lens as well as why it matters for contact lens wearers.

Alcon’s scientific programme will include presentations and clinical posters.

Ms Perez said: “An opportunity that delegates should not miss this year is Alcon’s partner presentation on Saturday morning: Improving patient outcomes through innovation – a look into the future, where our vice president of research and development, Dr Franck Leveiller, will share his deep insights into the future of contact lenses, lens care, and eye care delivery.”

She concluded: “On Sunday morning the Alcon showcase presentation is delivered by consultant ophthalmologist, Jeff Kwartz, who will be looking at dry eye and its management.”

Thirteen Alcon-supported clinical presentations and posters have been accepted by the BCLA and will be presented at this year’s conference, including meet the author sessions on Saturday (30 May) at 1pm and again at 4.30pm in Hall 2. On Sunday (31 May) there will be a ‘rapid fire presentation’ at noon and again at 4.30pm in Hall 3.
