Macular Society launches online course for ECPs

The charity currently provides two free training courses that are designed to educate practitioners about AMD

Sight loss charity the Macular Society has introduced a new online training course for eye care professionals who want to learn more about macular disease.

The course, titled The emotional impact of a diagnosis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), aims to provide practitioners with a guide to central vision loss and how to manage it. It is the second course that the Macular Society has introduced for eye care professionals following its An Introduction to AMD.

The new online course is divided into a series of modules including communication, interpretation, emotional Impact, and information and advice. Is it CET accredited and features a multiple choice exam at the end.

The charity has said it will add further courses to its portfolio to cover topics such as Early AMD, Skills for Seeing, Nutrition and Eye Health, and Charles Bonnet Syndrome.

Macular Society lead for eye care professionals, Jessica Murray, said: “A diagnosis of AMD can be devastating for patients. It is vital that eye care practitioners are aware of the emotional impact of the diagnosis and how they can help patients come to terms with it.”
