Crisis at Christmas calls for volunteer optometrists

Charities aim to send out 30 mobile optical teams over the Christmas period

Crisis at Christmas calls for volunteer optometrists

Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) and Crisis UK are urging optical professionals to volunteer to help run its eye health service in London from 23–29 December.

The charities require the expertise of optometrists, dispensing opticians, optical assistants and students for 9.30am–6.30pm shifts at the Christmas Opticians and Eye Health Service.

General manager at VCHP, David Brown, said: “Everyone who takes part says how richly rewarding this volunteering experience is.”

“To meet this year’s target of sending out 30 mobile optical teams during the week to visit the nine Crisis at Christmas centres across London we need a lot of volunteers, especially optometrists. Ophthalmologists would also be greatly valued to work in our fully equipped pop-up static clinic during this special week,” he added.
