Successful Fight for Sight campaign returns for a second consecutive year

BlinkWinkThink relaunched

Fight for Sight’s successful awareness-raising campaign #BlinkWinkThink will return during the lead up to 100% Optical 2016.

As the show’s official charity partner, Fight for Sight is encouraging people to take a selfie, covering one eye, to help raise awareness of the importance of eye research by sharing it on social media using the hashtag #BlinkWinkThink. People are then urged to make a £3 donation by texting BWTC16 £3 to 700070, with the funds donated to Fight for Sight.

The 100% Optical show will return to London’s ExCeL Exhibition Centre on 6–8 February next year. As official UK partner to the three-day show, the AOP is organising a comprehensive education programme to run throughout the event. Featuring in the programme will be a number of representatives of Fight for Sight’s Speaker Network, including Professor John Marshall, Professor Keith Meek and Dr Christos Bergeles.

During the show, the charity will also host a number of fundraising events including ‘blind dates’ with Fight for Sight researchers, an ‘Eye Spy’ competition and Rock-e-oke on the Sunday night.

Director of fundraising at Fight for Sight, Catherine Woodhead, said: “We’re really excited to launch the #BlinkWinkThink campaign to coincide with 100% Optical 2016 and we are pleased to build on our awareness and fundraising activities to support our pioneering eye research.”

The 100% Optical show director, Nathan Garnett, added: “We’re delighted that Fight for Sight has chosen to return as our charity partner for a second year. Following the success of our partnership in 2015, we want to help the charity raise further awareness and funds with the new and improved #BlinkWinkThink campaign.”
