Optegra consultant receives Best Surgical Video accolade

Prateek Agarwal received the award at the annual conference of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery

Optegra consultant, Mr Prateek Agarwal, has received an award for Best Surgical Video from the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (UKISCRS).

The award was presented by UKISCRS president, Mr Paul Russell, at the society’s annual conference at the end of October.

Agarwal, who is an ophthalmic consultant at Optegra Eye Hospital Manchester, and also at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, specialises in refractive surgery, including cataract, lens replacement and laser eye surgery.

The video category was judged on content, quality, complexity and take-home message.

Agarwal’s film presented a complex case where the intraocular lens had been dislocated following trauma, and the surgeon had been able to restore it using the Lasso Technique.

The video demonstrated a technique of salvaging the existing intraocular lens and avoiding creating large incisions, to enable quick visual recovery and negate the need for extensive vitreoretinal surgery.

Optegra explained that the patient enjoyed a “great visual outcome of 6/9 vision.”
