Disclosure and Barring Service checks
We understand that protecting your practice's reputation is essential, so in line with current legislation to undertake Disclosure and Barring Service checks (previously CRB), we’ve partnered with Complete Background Screening Ltd (CBS) to provide standard or enhanced level criminal checks to members at a preferential rate.
Detecting criminal convictions before job candidates are hired and represent your practice is crucial in protecting a practice's integrity. This is where the standard checking service can help.
If members want to join the NHS Performers List, they must undertake the enhanced level disclosure, including a check of the 'barred lists'.
What’s changing?
The DBS has confirmed that ID checks must now be carried out in person, meaning:
- ID documents must be viewed in the physical presence of the applicant
- Only original physical documents, eVisas, or digital PASS cards can be accepted
- Photocopies, scanned images, are no longer permitted.
What this means for members
As a result of this update, CBS will no longer be able to validate applicant ID on your behalf unless using a government-certified Digital Identity Provider.
New options available
Moving forward, CBS will continue to support you by creating applications and offering applicants two ID validation options:
- Digital ID Verification – £5.40 per attempt – limited to one attempt
- Post Office In-Person Verification – £12.00.
Given these additional costs to the applicant, CBS is pleased to offer a reduced administration fee of £12.00 as a goodwill gesture.
