When:

Time:

Where: Association of Optometrists, 2 Woodbridge Street, London, EC1R 0DG

Interactive CPD points: 3

Do you have a special interest in dry eye disease? Would you like to expand your clinical skillset in dry eye management and broaden the range of interventions you provide for patients?

This face-to-face skills workshop will provide dry eye specialists with an evidence-based introduction and background on the use of amniotic membranes for managing dry eye disease in a community optometry setting.

Delegates will observe the technique for applying amniotic membranes using a bespoke bandage contact lens, followed by a hands-on opportunity to learn the handling and insertion process for themselves. The workshop will conclude with a question-and-answer session for all attendees. By the end of the session, attendees will have the knowledge and skills to provide this intervention to their patients.

This session will be of particular interest to optometrists who currently run dedicated dry eye clinics and are looking to stay at the cutting edge of contemporary clinical management of the disease.

Learning outcomes

  • Practitioners will be able to explain to patients about the use of amniotic membranes for dry eye disease
  • Practitioners will identify the indications for using amniotic membranes for dry eye disease
  • Practitioners will learn how to apply amniotic membranes
  • Practitioners will recognise potential adverse responses when using amniotic membranes and identify how to manage patients relative to their scope of practice.
