Peer review is a great way to share ideas and reflect on different approaches. You will be presented with a series of cases to discuss in small groups with your peers.

Delegates will benefit from:

  • Hearing different approaches to managing clinical situations from their peers
  • Recognising the importance of reflection on current and future practice.

We restrict numbers at these events to ensure the best experience. To allow everyone the opportunity to attend please only book to attend one peer review. Multiple bookings will be removed.

CPD

  • There are three interactive CPD points approved for this peer review
  • To be eligible for the CPD points you need to attend for the duration of the session and be able to participate in interactive polls
  • You will need to enable audio and video functionality throughout the discussion in your breakout room
  • This event does not cover the requirement for contact lens opticians or optometrists with specialty registration
  • By attending this event you will be fulfilling the GOC’s peer review requirement for general optometrists.

Learning outcomes

Optometrists and dispensing opticians will be:

  • Able to adapt communication methods for a child with special needs
  • Able to advise a patient on eyewear for their lifestyle needs
  • Aware of how their skills and knowledge compare with their peers.

Optometrists will be able to:

  • Interpret an OCT scan and manage the final diagnosis
  • Manage a patient with dry eye disease.

Dispensing opticians will be able to:

  • Understand how an abnormality in an OCT scan presents and how patients with the abnormality would be managed
  • Advise a patient with dry eye disease.

Technical requirements

  • The meeting will take place using Zoom
  • We recommend that you use a computer or tablet device to participate in this meeting
  • You will not be able to participate in this meeting if you are using Chromebooks/Chrome OS or Zoom Rooms as you will be unable to join breakout rooms.

Ceri Smith-Jaynes

Ceri Smith JaynesCeri is a specialty optometrist, the clinical editor for multimedia at Optometry Today (OT) and a media spokesperson for the AOP. Her role mainly involves creating CPD videos, delivering peer review and writing clinical content for OT. She works in independent practice in Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire. Her special interests include prescribing for anterior eye disease, dry eye, orthokeratology and irregular-cornea contact lens fitting.

AOP Councillor Karen GennardKaren has been a practising community optometrist for over 20 years, mainly working for independent practices in Gloucestershire and also holds professional certificates in medical retina and glaucoma. As well as her practice role, she is the new clinic development manager for Vision Care for Homeless People and is also an AOP councillor for South West England.
