This evening of education is delivered in partnership with Moorfields Private Eye Hospital.

Delegates will benefit from two peer review sessions on different themes facilitated by consultant ophthalmologists from Moorfields.

Dealing with refractive surprise and managing guarded prognosis in challenging cataracts

This peer review will use case studies based on real-life patients for delegates to discuss in small groups with a lead facilitator. The session will consider what to look out for when seeing complex cataract patients in clinic including the tests to carry out to aid diagnosis, identify when onward referral is appropriate and the management options available.

Glaucoma patient case studies

This peer review will use case studies based on real-life glaucoma patients for delegates to discuss in small groups. Attendees will consider the tests required to aid diagnosis, recognise when it is appropriate to refer patients and understand the management options.

  • Practitioners will identify the steps required to aid glaucoma diagnosis
  • Practitioners will recognise when it is appropriate to refer glaucoma patients to secondary care

Rajesh Deshmukh

Rajesh DeshmukhRajesh is a consultant eye surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of London, the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and the International Council of Ophthalmology.

Having passed advanced senior fellowship in the field of cataract surgery and vision correction from Moorfields Eye Hospital London, Rajesh completed certification in laser and refractive surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmology and a postgraduate diploma in cataract and refractive surgery from Ulster University.

Rajesh has supervised and trained many ophthalmologists in cataract surgery and worked as research investigator in various randomised controlled trials in subspecialties of cataract surgery and medical retina with his work published in high impact peer-reviewed journals.

Andrew Scott

Andrew ScottAndrew is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon working in the glaucoma service at Moorfields Eye Hospital. His ophthalmology residency training was mainly at Moorfields Eye Hospital followed by a further three years of fellowship training in glaucoma at the same hospital.

He undertook a year of clinical glaucoma research at Moorfields under the supervision of Mr Keith Barton and was also awarded a grant from Fight for Sight to complete a three-year period of laboratory research at the Institute of Ophthalmology. He was conferred a PhD in experimental ophthalmology by University College London in 2014.

Andrew was chair of the European Society of Young Ophthalmologists where his vision was to improve standardisation and quality of ophthalmic training within Europe where much diversity in training still exists. In 2018, he received an achievement award by the American Academy of Ophthalmologists. He is currently an active member of the European Glaucoma Society Committee.

In his tertiary practice at Moorfields, he manages a highly diverse population of glaucoma patients and has an interest in complex and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
