In this webinar, consultant ophthalmologist, Vincenzo Maurino will consider cataract risk stratification and take into account how to prioritise treatment of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The presentation will outline surgical steps, potential intraoperative complications, and advances in techniques and intraocular lens options. Vincenzo will be joined by Aneel Suri who will deliver the viewpoint from the optometrist’s perspective.

Vincenzo Maurino

Vincenzo Maurino is a Senior Consultant Eye Surgeon to the Refractive Laser Vision Correction, Cataract Surgical Services and Corneal Transplant Service at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He is the Director of the Cataract Surgical Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital and is Visiting Professor of corneal transplant surgery at the University of Rome Tor Vergara. His main research focuses on the advancement of surgical technique and technologies for corneal and cataract surgery and outcomes of cataract surgery with premium artificial IOL. Mr Maurino has published peer-reviewed papers on cornea, refractive and cataract surgery. He is also regularly invited to deliver keynote lectures at national and international scientific ophthalmic meetings.

Aneel Suri

Aneel Suri has worked in the Cataract Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital since 2003 and as Optometry Cataract Lead since 2013. He is the main author of the Moorfields Cataract Guidelines for Optometrists which has formed the basis for the national guidance published by the UK Ophthalmology Alliance. He is currently Principal Contact Lens Optometrist and Specialist Cornea and External Disease Optometrist and has 10 years of clinical experience in both Medical Retina and Glaucoma. Prior to joining Moorfields, Aneel was a resident community optometrist and locum.
