100% optical logoIn July 2016, Moorfields announced a formal collaboration with the world’s leading artificial intelligence company, DeepMind. In this presentation, Pearse Keane will describe the motivation - and urgent need - to apply deep learning to ophthalmology, discuss the initial results of the group's research, and finally, outline why he believes that eye care will be fundamentally reinvented through the application of artificial intelligence.

There is one interactive CET point available for this webinar. To be eligible for the point you need to watch the duration of the webinar via a computer or hand held device. If you listen via the telephone only you will not be eligible for the point.

Pearse Keane is a consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and an Associate Professor at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. In 2016, he initiated a formal collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital and Google DeepMind, with the aim of developing artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for the earlier detection and treatment of retinal disease. In May 2020, he jointly led work, published in Nature Medicine, to develop an early warning system for age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
