Webinar: Stage 2 in sight? Come and get some insight

Where: Online Webinar

Stage 2 of the Scheme for Registration is an opportunity for a pre-registration trainee to show that they have maintained the competence that they have successfully demonstrated during Stage 1 of the Scheme.  Despite knowing that the skills and knowledge that will be assessed during a Stage 2 visit have already been successfully demonstrated, many trainees feel that their impending Stage 2 visit will be a daunting experience.

Catherine Viner, Senior Lecturer at University of Bradford, will use her university experience of preparing students for assessments, along with her knowledge gained whilst being a pre-registration supervisor, to help trainees prepare for a Stage 2 visit. Although attending this webinar does not guarantee a pass at Stage 2, it is hoped that the tips and hints given will help make sitting a Stage 2 assessment less overwhelming.

Catherine Viner is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bradford, where she has worked since 2003.  Her responsibilities at the university currently include module leadership of the Professional, Legal and Ethical Studies Module, supervision in undergraduate clinics and the teaching of clinical skills.  She also advises students on pre-registration concerns in her role as Pre-registration Tutor.  Prior to her appointment at the University of Bradford, she held a number of posts with Boots Opticians Ltd, where she also supervised several pre-registration optometrists and was involved  in tutoring on the pre-registration programme.
Catherine is an Assessor and Examiner for the College of Optometrists and was also a member of the GOC’s Hearings Panel for ten years. She holds an MSc in Optometry from the University of Bradford and is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, following successful completion of her Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice.  In October 2013 she commenced part-time research towards a PhD in the area of amblyopia.
