Mido and WGSN highlight key trends for 2020
Three macro trends, colours and materials were explored at the Milan event
27 February 2019
Mido and global trend analysts, WGSN, presented its 2020 forecast of eyewear styles and trends during this weekend’s trade show in Milan (23–25 February).
The presentation covered three macro trends for the season – code create, empower up and designing emotion – as well as key colours and materials.
It explained that code create explores the marriage of science, technology and nature, as well as how these change the way products are designed and how consumers dress. It focuses on innovative designs and future-facing materials.
Empower up is a youthful, upbeat trend that is inspired by the influence of generation Z. The organisations explained that designs combine playful and sustainable elements.
How technology and craftsmanship work together are the main features of designing emotion. They offer a deeper post-purchase connection with handcrafted textures and premium materials.
WGSN’s predictions for key colours include five tones that it said will make the biggest impact in 2020. It explained the colours, including mustard and peach tones, are about looking forward and capturing a progressive mood.
Materials such as antique gold, coated metal and upcycled components should be considered for spring/summer 2020 collections, WGSN shared.
It added that natural materials, upcycled waste and sustainability are becoming bigger factors for consumers.
