If the employer makes CET events available, covers the cost of the event and in addition pays the staff member a days wage to attend the CET event, can the Employer claim the CET grant on behalf of the Practioner?

In response to both of your general comments about the claim process.
We appreciate how frustrating the process has been and continues to be in England.
We certainly want the system to be made fairer for individuals and enable them to put forward claims on their own behalf. We've set this out in our recently updated position statement on CET grants and will continue to see this might happen https://www.aop.org.uk/advice-and-support/policy/position-statements/cet-grants
We have some advice on our CET claims page about options you could consider when having difficulties finding a contractor to claim through https://www.aop.org.uk/education-and-events/cet/claiming-your-cet-funding

Hi CambridgeEye,
Sorry to hear that they are reluctant to assist you this time. Signing and submitting the CET claim form does not in itself impact on your employment status with the practice. Many locums claim through a practice they sometimes work with, and some also need to use contractors they haven't worked for. We are not aware of any employment status issues arising from this happening.

I am locum and do 3 days a week for an independent practice (amongst other days for multiples). The independent practice has always been happy to submit the claim and pay it to me in full in the past without any question, in fact they have organised all the paperwork as well. This year they are not willing to submit the claim as this may look like we are employed. If this is the case how can any locum claim this grant. I second the previous comment.

Please can the AOP campaign even more strongly to have CET payments paid direct to the optometrist? I have had endless issues as a PT locum. 2 practices have declined to process my claim, one practice that I worked at last year has been sold hence ruling it out and in the past when I claimed through the fourth practice, I never received the payment. This is a ridiculous situation and needs to be resolved before the 2019 cycle, as it is grossly unfair and skewed to avoid paying CET allowances.
