Access to primary care – All-Party Parliamentary Health Group inquiry
Advocating for optometry within primary care
We were invited to contribute to the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group inquiry into improving access to primary care services.
During the session, we highlighted the crucial role of optometry in delivering equitable, accessible eye care within the community.
The inquiry aims to deliver evidence-based policy recommendations to ensure equitable, efficient, and sustainable access to primary care including general practice, community pharmacy, dentistry, and optometry by 2035, in alignment with the Government’s 10-Year Health Plan.
Its evidence sessions are assessing current government initiatives and identifying further actions required to ensure a sustainable primary care service, responsive to the needs of the UK population.
Our Clinical and Policy Director, Dr Peter Hampson, shares his reflections, on the evidence session, emphasising the potential for optometry to transform access to eye care.
