What we can do
Share our message with politicians and decision-makers, so they take urgent action
The Government knows that eye care is inconsistent across the UK – they also acknowledge the important role of optometrists in helping patients get the care they need, when they need it.
But we believe the Government has not gone far enough, or fast enough and this comes at the risk to people’s sight. This needs to change.
“High Street optometrists can protect the public by detecting, monitoring and treating glaucoma, and ease the burden on hospital eye services and GPs. We are calling on the Government to act now to make High Street optometry-led glaucoma care a reality for every patient.” Adam Sampson, Chief Executive, Association of Optometrists
We’re working hard to influence policy – to make access to a sight-saving diagnosis and treatment fairer for all.
The solution: Eye care everywhere via a national glaucoma pathway
A national glaucoma pathway using High Street optometrists to detect, monitor and treat glaucoma, will ease the burden on hospital eye services.
A fairer system: Eye care based on need, not postcode.
