Professor James Wolffsohn has been named the recipient of the Recognising research excellence award
What our Chair, Dr Julie-Anne Little, said about Professor James Wolffsohn
Professor James Wolffsohn; a phenomenal researcher who has made a huge impact across many fields relating to eye and vision research including contact lenses, dry eye, ocular allergies, refractive surgery and myopia.
Professor Wolffsohn achievements cover an incredible spectrum. Since joining Aston University in 2000, he has held a variety of academic roles and been head of department across three different disciplines – most recently as the Head of the School of Optometry.
James has published more than 300 peer-reviewed research papers spanning a diverse range of subjects – from myopia management and dry eye disease, to intraocular lenses and ophthalmic instrumentation. James also led the diagnostic committee for the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society DEWS 2 report and led white paper reports in myopia for the International Myopia Institute and the BCLA.
On receiving the award, Professor James Wolffsohn said:
I was truly honoured. It is lovely to have your research recognised and I applaud the AOP for recognising academics and clinicians who are pushing the boundaries forward. We need to inspire the next generation of optometrists to be innovators – that will be to the benefit of everyone.
