Professor Bruce Evans

What our Chair, Dr Julie-Anne Little, said about Professor Bruce Evans

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises a person who has dedicated their career to promoting and expanding the role of optics, or who has brought the benefits of optics to a wider audience. The recipient of this award demonstrates a wide-reaching impact on the profession.

I couldn’t be more honoured to present this award to Professor Evans, a remarkable optometrist who certainly fits that bill, and who has had a profound impact.

His career spans more than three decades. He has authored over 260 publications, given over 300 invited lectures, not to mention authoring eight editions of textbooks, including the third to sixth editions of Pickwell’s Binocular Vision Anomalies.

He is a director of research at the Institute of Optometry, and a visiting professor to City, University of London and London South Bank University. He is also a fellow of the College of Optometrists and British Contact Lens Association.

A truly remarkable journey.

On receiving the award, Professor Bruce Evans said:

It is a real surprise, a huge honour, and a slight sense of impostor syndrome, because I know lots of people in the profession who I think deserve it much more than me. [I have] A huge sense of gratitude, because it is really a reflection of the teams that I’ve worked with and of the people that have inspired me.
