Can you tell me three interesting facts about the company?

  • In 1935, Zeiss patented the world’s first technique for durable coating of anti-reflective glass surfaces
  • In 2007, Zeiss launched i.Scription technology – the first combination of subjective refraction and wavefront measurement incorporated within a spectacle lens
  • Zeiss’ Aloka Vision Programme addresses the need for affordable, good quality spectacles in rural and unserved regions of India.

What makes your products unique?

As the pioneer of scientific optics, we continue to challenge the limits of human imagination. With our passion for excellence, we create value for our customers and inspire the world in new ways.

As the world’s leading manufacturer of precision optics we combine technical expertise and innovative ideas into exceptional visual experiences. The Zeiss i.Profilerplus enables our partners to offer patients lenses with Zeiss i.Scription technology. For lenses featuring Zeiss i.Scription technology, the wearer’s personal eye profile is objectively analysed using a special computer-guided measuring system – the Zeiss i.Profilerplus. This profile can be incorporated in the design and production of the lens, making it possible to correct previously undetected visual defects. The result is crisper, clearer vision at night and at twilight, reduced glare effects, more vibrant colours and improved contrast perception.

What is the latest product that Zeiss has released and why does it stand out from the crowd?

Zeiss recently raised its standard of care by including full UV protection, up to 400nm, in all clear Zeiss plastic lenses. Full UV protection is now available across the entire Zeiss plastic lens range and offers the same protection as premium sunglasses.

Without the right protection, UV can be really damaging to your patients’ long-term eye health. Unfortunately, many of today’s clear lenses do not fully block UV up to 400nm. As a result, UV rays are transmitted through the lens and can potentially harm both the eyes and skin. This lack of protection can lead to accelerated ageing of the tissue surrounding the eyes and harmful eye diseases such as photokeratitis and cataracts. A staggering 48% of blindness worldwide is caused by cataracts and 5–10% of all skin cancer cases involve the eyes. Patients can now protect their eyes against harmful UV rays whilst wearing their clear Zeiss spectacle lenses.

It was a revolutionary new design, developed in line with scientific principles and it would form the basis for all modern lenses.

As the pioneer of scientific optics, we continue to challenge the limits of human imagination. With our passion for excellence, we create value for our customers and inspire the world in new ways.
