AOP student representatives
Our student reps are current optometry students at universities across the UK. Their role is to represent the student voice to the AOP, to share your ideas and views with us to help us develop our student benefits and services.

Undergraduate Student Councillor
Our undergraduate student Councillor is Habeeb Rahman for 2022 -23, Habeeb is currently studying MSci Optometry at the University of Bradford. The AOP Council acts as a representative body for our membership, ensuring voices from different modes of practice and career stages are heard and can contribute.
Habeeb and our student reps meet regularly with the AOP, to discuss issues affecting students and how the AOP can support you. Find out more about our Council.
How to share your views
We listen to our student members and actively seek your views to ensure your voice is heard on important issues, including the future of optometry education, regulation and technology.
Look out for our email updates and follow us on social media to find out about opportunities to share your views and experiences with the AOP. You can also post a comment or contact student Councillor Habeeb on our community forums.
New education and training requirements
The GOC is introducing new requirements for education, training and qualifications, which will be rolled out from 2023. The new requirements outline the knowledge, skills and behaviours students and trainees must achieve to gain a GOC approved qualification; and set out certain requirements for education providers relating to curriculum design and assessment.
Our Student Committee, along with our Policy Committee, Hospital Optometrists' Committee, Council, and wider membership contributed to our extensive response to the GOC’s consultation in 2020, which led to these changes.
We will continue to work on your behalf to understand what further support and information you need, and to help you understand how the changes will affect you.
