AOP Council elections 2024 open for voting
Positions in four geographical locations will go to a member vote until 23 April
The Association of Optometrists (AOP) Council elections are taking place in four geographical locations in England.
Eligible members in the contested constituencies are encouraged to cast their vote by the 23 April.
Emma Spofforth, AOP Chairman, said: “Becoming an AOP Councillor is an incredibly rewarding role which offers the opportunity to use your own knowledge, and on the ground experience, to shape the AOP’s policy making and help drive progress within the optometry profession, while also further building your own skills, among peers.”
Adam Sampson, AOP Chief Executive said: “Our Councillors are a vital part of our work to protect our members’ interests and build the AOP’s influence within and outside the sector to secure a future of the profession that we’re proud of. If your constituency is being contested, now is the time to have your say on the future Councillor representing you.”
Council elections will be taking place in the following constituencies:
- North East England: Simon Raw, Martin Sharman
- South West England: Karen Gennard, Jesus Sastre, Dan Varcoe
- West Midlands: Sukhi Drake, Sofia Fazal, Shana Parveen, Mital Visana
- East of England: Nicholas Hagan, Seema Rauniar
Members in the contested areas will be sent an email by the AOP’s election partner, Civica, on Thursday 28 March with their unique invitation to vote.
The results of the election will be announced in May, with new Council members officially welcomed in June at their first Council meeting, joining Councillors representing geographical constituencies across the UK and various segments of the profession.
