AOP and OT  launches new education designed for GOC CPD cycle

Points can be earned through online exams, webinars and events

Optometry Today (OT) has launched Continuing Professional Development (CPD) exams designed to support members to meet their requirements under the new General Optical Council (GOC) cycle for 2022–2024 – starting this month.

Six new exams are available online and are worth one non-interactive CPD point. Articles associated with the exams were published in the December 2021/January 2022 edition of OT.

Alongside the online offering, the Association of Optometrists (AOP) is launching a series of professional development webinars and events in early February 2022, the majority of which will offer CPD points. 100% Optical 2022, now taking place between the 23–25 April at London’s ExCel, will also offer AOP-curated education, carrying over 100 CPD points across all sessions.

Under the new scheme, the GOC now requires individual registrants to declare and log CPD points on their MyGOC system. CPD point providers, including the AOP and OT, are no longer responsible for this element of the CPD process.

All fully qualified optometrists, dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians must still collect a minimum of 36 points over a three-year period, with at least half being collected from interactive modes of education.

The GOC’s new CPD scheme will run from 1 January 2022 until 31 December 2024. The AOP has produced a guide to obtaining CPD points available on our website.

OT’s exams can now be taken online at www.optometry.co.uk/cpd. The exams will be available until 25 March 2022.
