AOP launches new resources for World Menopause Day

Menopause support and guidance for members and practices

Hot flushes are the one symptom that everyone talks about, but the effects of the menopause are wide ranging – from sleeplessness, headaches and muscle pain to memory loss, depression and anxiety.

In conjunction with this years’ World Menopause Day, the Association of Optometrists (AOP) is launching a suite of online resources to support members, available from Monday 18 October.

With a commitment to support members affected by the menopause, as well as practices that are committed to looking after staff, the AOP has developed tips and advice on how to understand and navigate the menopause – before, during and after.

A new template menopause policy for employers to adopt in practice and share with their staff has also been created.

Wendy Steele, AOP Commercial Director, said: “Menopause is not just an issue that is of concern to women – everyone should have an awareness of what it is and how it can affect a person, both personally and professionally.”

Ms Steele added: “All women will experience the menopause at some point in their life and the menopause can also impact trans and non-binary people. The purpose of these resources is not only to raise awareness but also help our members feel comfortable and confident in speaking about their experience, enabling open conversations about the menopause and its impact.”

AOP members can access the resources by visiting, www.aop.org.uk/menopause

Additional support is also available from the AOP’s employment team, [email protected]
