Dear Ramnik, Locums have the same entitlement to the CET payment as everyone else who is on the performer/ophthalmic list. The advice you've been given here is not right. We will get in touch with you to assist . Saqib Ahmad, Policy Officer

I work for a charity with a GOS contract. My employers are happy to pay the grant to me as a performer but are not sure whether it should be on payroll i.e. Taxed at source as PAYE or passed on as a bank transfer for full amount. (the GOS performers are employed as bank staff effectively a zero hours contract)

We certainly appreciate that this can be difficult. Your best option would firstly always be to approach a contractor that you have worked with.If you are having problems with the one that you do most work with than do approach others that you've also done work for. On what basis do they keep £100? Please do email direct if you want to discuss

This is a real difficulty for locums like myself. I was made to give up £100 of my cet grant last time as its the multiples company policy. I agree, AOP should help us here by having some contractors on the aop team who can help us.

We'd of course encourage all contractors/employers to be as helpful as possible to their staff in claiming CET grants. It is a small amount of time to fill out the form but will be of great value to your staff

Hi Meena, You make a good point. Unfortunately there is nothing to compel a contractor to sign a form for their employee (performer). When they do claim for a performer they shoukd pass on the grant as set out here and is dircted by the Department of Health. What difficulties do you tend to find? Please do get in contact if there are specific issues we can help you with. [email protected] Saqib

Companies should be made to accommodate grants for Locums too. Why do AOPnot do more to arrange for this. As a locum I find it difficult to get multiples to agree to it. Locums still require CET, and we pay enough to AOP so that real issues are addressed.
