Essilor is hosting a virtual summit focusing on the latest insights around presbyopia, suggesting this will be the first global digital event focusing on presbyopia and progressive lenses.

The first Global Varilux Summit will be held on 10 November through the Essilor Vision Care Center virtual platform.

The company suggested that attendees can expect to receive the latest insights in consumer research and eye health trends and scientific developments in presbyopic correction as well as methodologies behind progressive lenses. Eye care professionals will also be able to share best practise with peers.

The summit will include a one-hour plenary session with key topics covering life and vision after 40, updates in presbyopic correction, scientific advances on progressive lens design, and ensuring the best patient care with Varilux.

In addition, three 30-minute breakout sessions will explore the psychology of young presbyobes, successful adaptation of Varilux lenses, and clinical management of presbyopia.

Co-host of the event, Agnes Dewidehem, the global Essilor brands senior vice president, commented: “The Varilux summit aims to open doors and minds to the latest technical and scientific advances in presbyopia with contributions from internationally renowned experts.” Dewidehem added that Essilor will also share key learnings from recent surveys.

The virtual event will be broadcast to 66 countries and available in 11 languages.

Dr Howard Purcell, president and CEO of the New England College of Optometry, and co-host of the event, described presbyopia as “a very dynamic area of focus for our profession.”

Sharing that attendees will hear from experts on advancements in the field and optimal dispensing, Purcell suggested “awareness, education and customisation” are at the heart of success. He added: “People notice when they are being informed. Everyone wants to make informed decisions.”

Registration for the free event is open until 9 November. Eyecare professionals can register through the event platform.
