The 2016 Vision UK conference (14 June, The Grange Tower Bridge Hotel, London) was the last for retiring Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) chief executive, Lesley-Anne Alexander.
Speaking about Ms Alexander’s 12 years in the role, Royal College of Ophthalmologists president, Professor Carrie MacEwen, told OT that: “During that time she has achieved many accolades and many plaudits. I think her moving on is going to be a time of change for the RNIB.”
At the conference, Ms Alexander spoke of her plans to tackle her “bucket list” after stepping down at the end of September. She also thanked the many people who she had worked with throughout her time at RNIB. OT’s video production editor, Laurence Derbyshire, captured Ms Alexander’s emotional speech.
The Vision UK 2016 conference featured four topic streams – ageing and sight loss, diabetes and preventing blindness, children and young people and science and technology.
