AOP autumn CET and events programme now open for booking

The AOP launches its autumn events programme with CET, workshops and seminars across the country

The Association of Optometrists (AOP) has launched its autumn events programme with continuing education and training (CET) conferences, workshops and seminars around the UK now available to book.

The Association’s career workshops will return with dates in September and November. Launched in 2014 the sessions have proved increasingly popular, offering practical tips and techniques to help attendees reach their professional potential. Dr Tochukwu Kanu, an AOP member from London who attended Mastering workplace communication in April this year, rated the session as 'amazing'. AOP member David Hilton described the workshop as “very well presented and enjoyable”.

September also sees the first of the AOP’s autumn conferences, Therapuetics London - formerly London Education Destination. Organised in partnership with SECO International, the conference will run from 25-26 September with both specialist and general interactive CET points available. Commenting on the appeal of the event, Dr Ian Beasley, the AOP’s Head of Education, said: “Our annual conference is ideal for those who are independent prescriber (IP) qualified, contemplating taking this route, or simply wanting to broaden their clinical skill set”. Delegates have until 30 June to make the most of early bird discounts.

The Hospital Optometrists Annual Conference (HOAC) returns for its 42nd year from 8-9 October with 12 CET points applied for. Andrew Tompkin, Secretary of the Hospital Optometrist Committee, commented that 2016 promised “an excellent conference programme of interest to all”. Key speakers include Professor Sunil Shah, who will cover refractive surgery, and Dr Maggie Woodhouse, who will discuss keratoconus in young people with Down’s syndrome.

Other autumn conferences include the National Optical Conference (NOC) in Birmingham and the Student Conference in Warwick, both in November.

The Association’s peer discussion and legal roadshows will continue to tour the UK in 2016. With spring and summer dates selling out in record time, the autumn programme is expected to be popular once again.  With three interactive CET points available, the peer discussion roadshows will start in September in Loughborough, followed by Cambridge, Sheffield and London. Also in September, the legal roadshows will begin in Bradford, followed by Brighton, offering four interactive CET points each.
