Students convene for 2015 AOP Student Conference

Student conference provides valuable career support

We were delighted to see so many motivated young optometrists at this year’s sell-out AOP Student Conference.

The popular two-day event, held at Center Parcs’ Sherwood Forest (26–27 November), attracted representatives from nine of the UK-based universities and provided an insight into the pre-registration period, as well as professional advice in preparation of entering the sector.

As part of the conference, there was legal advice and guidance from the AOP’s in-house team of experts and the AOP Film and Television Awards (AFTA) were also held, with City University students taking home the award for their film The Optom Games, a parody of the Hunger Games franchise.

CV and interview advice was particularly popular, with attendees advised on how to tailor their applications to different types of employers, what to include on their CV and how to prepare for interviews.

Benjamin Radivan from Aston University, commented: "The conference was a really good opportunity to meet different employers and find out more about pre-registration life.”

Next year's AOP Student Conference will take place on 26-27 November 2016 at Warwick University. For more information and to access videos of the event, read 'Sell out AOP Student Conference provides valuable career support'.
