AOP Council changes

Our new Councillors reflect a wide range of experience from all ages and backgrounds

In June 2015, the AOP Council agreed to changes proposed by the Council Review Group and we held Council elections in September 2015. The reforms are designed to increase interaction with AOP members and make better use of resources.

Our new Councillors reflect a wide range of experience from all ages and backgrounds within membership. The new Council has 33 members, 25 of whom are elected as geographical representatives for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. All positions not already occupied by a Board member were up for election in 2015. In the future elections will be elections for half the positions in two out of every three years, with the first in 2017.

There are also eight appointed Council positions to represent particular parts of the profession: undergraduate students, and pre-registration, newly qualified and early career optometrists, university lecturers, hospital optometrists, franchisees/joint venture partners, and dispensing opticians.
