The General Optical Council (GOC) is encouraging registrants to log their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points through the MyCPD platform.

Seven months into the new CPD scheme, 4068 registrants have still not accessed the MyCPD platform.

The GOC confirmed that 118,534 points had been logged through the system by 1 August, including 112,706 provider-led points and 5827 self-directed points.

An email update by the optical regulator in August highlighted that registrants are expected to obtain at least six points per year.

“We would encourage you to do more than this in order to spread your learning evenly across the three-year cycle,” the GOC noted.

The optical regulator has produced a brief guide taken from a recent webinar that details how to log points on the MyCPD platform.

The GOC transitioned from a Continuing Education and Training scheme to CPD at the beginning of this year.

The new scheme requires registrants complete 36 points over a three-year cycle, including 18 interactive points.

Points need to be completed across four different domains: professionalism, communication, clinical practice, and leadership and accountability.

Non-approved CPD can count towards an individual’s points as long as it meets certain criteria.
