The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) has recruited the General Optical Council’s (GOC) former director of policy.

Alistair Bridge (pictured) will leave his role at the optical regulator in February to become ABDO’s head of strategy.

ABDO’s general secretary, Sir Anthony Garrett, said he is “delighted” with Mr Bridge’s appointment.

“He qualified as a solicitor and worked in practice before going on to work extensively in consumer and regulatory roles. He has a rare and valuable skill set which will add to the strength of ABDO’s dedicated and talented executive team,” Mr Garrett shared.

GOC chief executive and registrar, Lesley Longstone, thanked Mr Bridge for his contribution to the optical regulator over the seven years he worked at the GOC.

“His regulatory expertise and understanding of the optical sector have been invaluable to the organisation and I wish him every success in his new role at ABDO,” she said.

Mr Bridge begins his new role at ABDO on 24 February.

The GOC has appointed Leonie Milliner as senior education adviser to ensure the delivery of its strategic education reforms.
