Newmedica has opened its fifth eye health clinic and surgical centre in North Ormesby in Teesside, which will work with the NHS and local optometrists.
The clinic has been set up as a joint venture with consultant ophthalmologists and clinical directors, Qasim Mansoor and Philip Severn, and Annette Johnson as operational director.
It provides NHS and private ophthalmology, including cataract surgery and glaucoma treatment, in a non-hospital environment.
Referrals will be accepted from local optometrists and GPs, with patients returning to their optometrists for aftercare.
Speaking about the clinic, Ms Johnson said: “The opening of Newmedica Teesside in North Ormesby is one positive step towards avoiding preventable sight loss for many in the UK. Our launch has been driven by patient demand. Local people need access to exceptional eye surgery and treatment without the unnecessary worry of long waiting times. We are delighted to address this need.”
Patients will typically be seen within two weeks for their first appointment, and then have their surgical treatment within the following four weeks.
The Teesside clinic is the fifth joint venture eye health clinic and surgical centre to be set up, following openings in North East Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire, Bristol and Leeds.
