NEG celebrates 40th anniversary

The group’s annual conference in Nottingham welcomed over 100 guests

NEG 40th celebrations
The National Eyecare Group (NEG) celebrated its 40th anniversary with members at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on 30 June and 1 July.

Over 100 independent practitioners and guests took part in the celebrations at NEG’s annual Building for Success conference.

NEG founders, Michael Daunt and Mike Wheeler (pictured), spoke about the group’s evolution during an anniversary dinner on the Sunday evening. Founded as Percy Kirk in 1979, NEG is now a purchasing group for independent opticians.

Operations director at NEG, Phil Mullins, said: “We believe that 40 years in business is a great milestone for NEG, particularly when you consider the changes the UK optical market has seen over the past few decades – and the more recent challenges presented to High Street businesses in general.”

The conference’s continuing education and training programme included sessions on optical coherence tomography imaging and referral refinement, plus glaucoma diagnosis and dry eye identification.

NEG also launched its Business Club in partnership with Practice Building during the conference. The club provides access to business training including live tutorials, marketing packs and quarterly strategic planning.
