The British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) has announced a certificate in myopia management that will launch “later this year.”

It is an online course consisting of six narrated lectures that will include evidence-based research presented by myopia experts such as optometrist Gillian Bruce, Professor Pauline Cho and Professor Ian Flitcroft.

Past president of the BCLA, Keith Tempany, said: “This certificate gives us an opportunity to create a band of myopia management visionaries and advocates who can make a long-lasting difference to the eye health of generations to come.”

The continuing education and training-accredited programme will highlight the increasing epidemiology and burden of myopia, the risks for onset and progression of myopia, and differentiate between the different myopia management strategies and consider when to implement them.

Guidance will be given on how best to communicate the rationale for myopia management with children and parents and how to develop an appropriate myopia management strategy to use in practice.
