2019 Contact Lens Educator of the Year awards

The International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) has announced the winners of its 2019 Contact Lens Educator of the Year awards as it begins celebrations to mark its 40th year.
Designed to recognise and reward the achievements of professionals in contact lens education, the winners of this year’s accolades will travel to the UK to receive their awards at the British Contact Lens Association’s (BCLA) Clinical Conference and Exhibition in Manchester on 30 May to 1 June.

Rubén Velázquez, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City
IACLE Asia Pacific Contact Lens Educator of the Year
Craig Woods, Deakin University in Victoria, Australia
IACLE Europe/Africa – Middle East (EAME) Contact Lens Educator of the Year
Fabrizio Zeri, the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca in Milan, Italy.Speaking about receiving the accolade, Mr Zeri (pictured) said: “In my experience, IACLE has played a massive role in contributing to the growth of contact lens education around the world. Sharing knowledge, experience, passion and resources among educators has been the key to upgrade the level of education in the field in every country. This is the reason why having been chosen as IACLE EAME Contact Lens Educator of the Year for 2019 is a great honour for me.”
IACLE has also named the recipients of its 2019 Travel Awards, which are supported by industry sponsors and provide educators with the opportunity to attend conferences around the world.

Asia Pacific Optometric Congress.Speaking about IACLE’s plans to mark its 40th year, the association’s president, Dr Shehzad Naroo said: “2019 is our 40th anniversary year and we’re talking about the exponential impact that we’ve had on contact lens education. Over four decades, we estimate that IACLE has been instrumental in fitting as many as 250 million contact lens wearers worldwide.”
