The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists have partnered to deliver a refraction certificate examination.

The certificate is one of four examinations that a trainee ophthalmologist takes in order to achieve the College’s fellowship.

ABDO will host the examination every April, July and December at its National Resource Centre in Birmingham from 2020, with a one-off exam taking place in June 2019.

Head of examinations at the College, Dylan Costello, said: “The state of the art venue will enable the College to continue to be able to deliver a robust examination with the stability that it requires. We are excited to be undertaking this new relationship with the National Resource Centre in the development of our exam delivery.”

Head of ABDO’s National Resource Centre, Phil Hall, added that the association is “extremely pleased” that it will be making the most of its facilities on an ongoing basis for the refraction exam.
