The Independents Day (iDay) and National Eyecare Group (NEG) conference has announced Andy Clark, the founder of bespoke business development company, Practice Building, as its keynote speaker.

The optometrist’s Who do you think you are? presentation will explore practice archetypes and explain that practitioners need to understand what defines themselves and their practice.

Speaking about booking Mr Clark (pictured) to speak at the event, operations director at NEG, Phil Mullins, said: “When it comes to covering the hybrid business that is UK optical practice, speakers really do need to have a good understanding of this unique business model. And when it comes to understanding both the professional and commercial aspects of optometry there was only ever going to be one man for the job.”

The 2018 event will have a ‘Balancing eyecare and eyewear’ theme and will adopt a one day, three venue roadshow format.

Director of event organiser, Proven Track Record, Nick Atkins, said: “High street optics has long battled with balancing the clinical versus retail elements of running a successful practice and profitable business. The current MECS versus specs discussions have re-energised these long-standing deliberations.

“As iDay always tries to be relevant and topical, this will be the focus of this year’s joint conference programme – only we prefer to call this tightrope that independents walk, eyecare versus eyewear.”

The iDay and NEG conference will take place at Holiday Inn, Wembley (22 October), Coventry’s Ricoh Arena (29) and Holiday Inn, Bolton (30).
