The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) has appointed Dean Dunning (pictured) to take over from Rosemary Bailey in February 2020 as chief examiner for contact lenses.

Mr Dunning is an ABDO contact lens examiner for theory and practical exams. With 22 years of experience in the profession, he is also programme leader in contact lenses at Bradford College.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Dunning said: “The introduction of extended services for contact lens opticians, along with the General Optical Council strategic educational review make this a really exciting time to train as a contact lens optician. I am really looking forward to my role in helping to maintain and develop high quality contact lens qualifications.”

ABDO explained that Mr Dunning will shadow Ms Bailey over the next four examination sessions to ensure a smooth transition.
