The British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the Singapore Optometric Association (SOA) have partnered to host a conference in Singapore.

Taking place on 18–19 September at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre, the BCLA Asia conference will feature sessions on the latest research and clinical guidance, as well as workshops covering clinical, business and research skills.

President of the BCLA, Keith Tempany (pictured), said: “Growth in the contact lens market is particularly strong in Singapore and across Asia as a whole. The event will aim to continue to build the confidence of eye care practitioners to prescribe contact lenses with a focus on prescribing to the presbyope, fitting children, speciality lenses and managing dry eye disease.”

The event, which is sponsored by Alcon, CooperVision and Menicon, replaces SOA’s annual conference and the organisers hope that the new format will attract over 700 delegates.

Speaking about the event, president of SOA, Dr Koh Liang Hwee, said: “It is significant to be hosting this inaugural partnership at Singapore’s first institution of optometry, which has state-of-the-art facilities and generous space for trade exhibitors.

“SOA is an accredited continuing professional education (CPE) provider by the Optometrist and Opticians Board of Singapore and strives to provide quality CPE events for the benefit of the optometric profession.”
