College of Optometrists launches monocle exhibition for Open House London 2015

The College of Optometrists will open the doors of its historic building with the in-house museum launching a new exhibition

Monocle exhibition

The College of Optometrists will open its doors to the public this Sunday (20 September) as part of the Open House London festival of architecture.

With the date also marking the centenary of the British Optical Association Museum, which is located in the College building, visitors will also be the first to witness Monocles! – its latest exhibition.

The exhibition investigates the monocle’s development and presence through time by exhibiting both historic examples, as well as the latest models. Actors dressed up as notable monocle-wearers are also on-hand to answer questions about both the exhibition and the history of the College and its building.

Access to the College and the exhibition is part of the overarching Open House London festival, which is an opportunity for the public to see the interiors of historic and notable buildings that would usually have limited access.

The College will be open on 20 September from 1–5pm. It is located at 42 Craven Street, London. Entry is free of charge and no booking in advance is required.
