Optometrist Brian Tompkins has been named the new president of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA).
Mr Tompkins was officially presented with the presidential chain of office at the association’s awards dinner by outgoing president Susan Bowers on Saturday (30 May).
Commenting on his new role, Mr Tompkins said: “The chance to lead the best contact lens organisation in the world is something I cannot wait to begin. I hope to bring enthusiasm, passion and fun into every aspect of the contact lens world.”
Coinciding with the appointment, the BCLA has elected a number of new representatives to its council. These include two optometric representatives, Jonathon Bench and Michael Kilpartrick; two contact lens optician representatives, Nick Atkins and David Samuel; and a medical representative Dr Sunil Shah.
Completing their terms of office on the BCLA council were: Dr Catharine Chisholm, Sheetal Patel, Iain May, Katherine Reed and Dr Siobhan Wren.
Thanking outgoing members of council, chief executive of the BCLA, Cheryl Donnelly, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members leaving us. Their contribution has been invaluable and the legacy of all of their efforts, decisions and commitment will be visible in the association’s activities for years to come.”
