AIO launching new code of conduct for independents
Consultation on a new code of conduct for independent practitioners will be launched by the Association for Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians (AIO) at Optrafair this weekend.

The AIO will invite visitors to Optrafair (18–20 April, Birmingham NEC) to participate in a consultation to help inform the provisions of its new consumer-facing code of conduct which is designed to set independent practitioners apart on the High Street.

AIO chairman, Peter Warren, said: “New standards for optometrists and dispensing opticians must have the professions’ input.”

Mr Warren added: “We have now set a timeline for the launch of our new code of practice that is designed to help inform consumers and prospective patients of the different service offerings that are available on the High Street and provide a distinguishing mark for independent practitioners who are committed to providing the highest quality of eye care.”

The AIO will enter a period of consultation among its members and the wider professions, which will commence at Optrafair and will last for eight weeks. It will seek input under a number of key headings, which will then be considered by the AIO council in July.

The code will be launched at the AIO conference in Nottingham in October. For more information, visit the AIO website
