The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM) achieved a first by holding a ‘Moot’ at 100% Optical at London’s ExCeL Exhibition Centre earlier this month (7–9 February).
The debates have been designed to demonstrate the livery company’s unique place in optics as a meeting point for the exchange of ideas ‘in an atmosphere of good fellowship.’ Held on the main stage of the annual show in the form of ‘Any Questions meets Question Time,’ the debate attracted a fully engaged audience and interesting questions. The discussion included contributions from the audience and covered topics such as the regulation of online sight tests from overseas through to the relevance of livery companies in the 21st century.
The panel was chaired by WCSM master, Dr Christine Tomkins, and included members of the livery company.
A case of wine offered in a prize draw for those attending the ‘Moot’ was won by Julian Wiles, managing director of Performance Lenses.
