Patients will be seen at a new Community Health and Eye Care (CHEC) treatment centre in Accrington from October.

The launch of the facility follows other site openings in Preston and Blackpool within the North West.

NHS England recently announced that staff have made progress on eliminating two-year waits – however, 6.6 million patients are still waiting for NHS treatment.

CHEC will be hosting two continuing professional development (CPD) events ahead of the opening of the Accrington site.

The events will offer the chance to learn about the new facility and how CHEC is working to address regional backlogs.

Chief operating officer at CHEC, Jon Dore, highlighted that the community-based ophthalmology provider is continuing to expand services across the North West.

“Our centre in Accrington will offer the NHS vital support in reducing these backlogs and ensuring that patients receive timely high-quality care. With patient experience at the heart of all we do, we look forward to providing vital ophthalmology and endoscopy services for the local Accrington community,” he said.
