The Moorfields Eye Hospital retinal therapy unit has been awarded Clinical Service of the Year in the Macular Society Awards for Excellence.

Retinal specialist at the hospital, Dr Omar Mahroo, was also recognised with a Rising Star of the Year accolade.

The awards will be presented at the Macular Society’s annual conference on 21 September in London.

Head of the medical retina service at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Declan Flanagan, said the awards were recognition of the outstanding work of staff across the clinical service.

“We are delighted to be recognised for our efforts as we continue to strive for excellence in all areas,” he shared.

Macular Society chief executive, Cathy Yelf, said that awards are a chance to highlight the work of eye care professionals in the fight against macular disease.

“The commitment and dedication shown by the whole team at the retinal therapy unit is clear to see from the tremendous feedback we’ve received about them,” Ms Yelf emphasised.

“Alongside this, Dr Mahroo has already accumulated a hugely impressive body of work that is highly respected by his peers,” she added.
