Moorfields Eye Hospital has announced the appointment of David Probert (pictured) as its new chief executive.

Mr Probert is currently the director of strategic development at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he has led the development of a number of major strategic initiatives including two major hospital developments on the University College Hospitals site. He will take up his new role on 18 April 2016.

Mr Probert said: “I am honoured to have been asked to be the next chief executive at Moorfields. I very much look forward to joining the team next year and helping take forward a number of major initiatives to help define the hospital’s exciting future.”

Mr Probert’s previous roles include chief operating officer at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where he had board level responsibility for all clinical and non-clinical NHS and commercial services, both within the hospital and across Sutton and Merton.

He has also held a number of senior operational leadership positions at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

The current chief executive, John Pelly, will leave at the end of this month and Julian Nettel has been appointed to cover the role during the gap. Mr Nettel is a “highly experienced” chief executive, and was recently interim chief executive at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust.
