AOP publishes new Making Accurate Claims England guidance
The PDF document is available to download from the AOP’s website

The AOP has published a guide to making accurate claims for general ophthalmic services (GOS) work in England.
The production of the new Making Accurate Claims in England 2022 guide, which can be found on the AOP’s website as a downloadable PDF, has been led by optometrist and AOP clinical advisor, Kevin Wallace, with support from ABDO and FODO.
Speaking about the guide, Wallace explained: “This guidance is designed as a comprehensive reference point for optometrist, ophthalmic medical practitioner and dispensing optician members in England to help them make accurate claims.”
Wallace told OT: “Navigating the GOS fees process can be complicated, so we’ve aimed to clearly set out where members can make claims and provide advice to avoid reclaims from their local area team in the future. We hope it will also support practitioners in developing improved internal processes around claims.”
The guide is separated into 44 chapters, each designed to share clear and comprehensive information, answering common queries about making GOS claims in England. Areas covered include: What can I claim for?; What is not included in GOS sight tests?; vouchers and repairs for adults and children; avoiding GOS fee reclaims, and much more.
Wallace highlighted that the new guide has been produced as an online tool, “offering a more user and environmentally-friendly solution that is easily navigated, enabling quick and simple access to all the associated links in the document.”

AOP GOS audit tool
AOP members are reminded that they can also access a secure online GOS audit tool to help them audit their GOS claims in England. The tool, launched in 2019, enables members to upload a sample of GOS claims and it can help to highlight any areas where practices may be vulnerable to a reclaim.
Access the GOS audit tool on the AOP’s website.
