How does it feel to win?

We are absolutely delighted to be named AOP Awards Product of the Year. This win is a testament to a decade of work by a huge number of people within Johnson & Johnson Vision, in partnership with Transitions Optical, to deliver a best-in-class vision care innovation.

Can you describe what the product is and what it does?

Acuvue Oasys with Transitions light intelligent technology is the first-of-its-kind contact lens to deliver exceptional visual performance your patients can see and feel.* This lens combines the proven comfort and visual performance of Acuvue with seamless adaptation to light, and day to night.

Acuvue Oasys Transitions offers seven dimensions of exceptional visual performance* for patients: physical comfort, vision in bright light indoors and out, vision at night, improved clarity on colour contrast, the ability to adapt to changing light conditions, active blue light filtering and UV protection.

How did the product come to fruition?

Like all of Johnson & Johnson Vision innovations, the driving factor behind the development of Acuvue Oasys with Transitions was patient insight.

First, we know that 68% of those who stop wearing reusable contact lenses do so because of performance and comfort issues. And almost two out of three dropouts in the category are from reusable lenses.

Second, we know that exceptional visual performance* is driven by more than just acuity and physical comfort, but also light management.

Thirdly, 87% of consumers are bothered by light – whether it be while spending time indoors or outdoors, using digital devices, or driving at night which can result in tiredness, distraction and discomfort.

These insights show that there is a clear gap in the market and unmet patient need for a contact lens that could deliver physical comfort, good vision, and light management.

Acuvue Oasys with Transitions

How long did it take to develop?

Acuvue Oasys with Transitions is born out of more than a decade of in-depth research and development, including clinical trials with more than 1000 patients.

What’s the importance of the Transitions light intelligent technology?

The technology is important because it has helped create the first ever contact lens to optimise visual acuity, physical comfort and light management for patients. The lens is designed to help with challenging light conditions that can compromise patients’ visual performance. It is also the only contact lens that provides 100% protection against UVB rays, and it has the highest level of UV protection in a contact lens.

How does the product support practitioners in clinical practice?

By introducing Acuvue Oasys with Transitions as an option to patients, we believe there is an opportunity to grow the category by attracting new wearers. This lens can help improve contact lens wearers’ experience and reduce drop-out, because it is addressing an unmet patient need to manage changing light conditions.
