Description of role: Applications are invited for a Principal Optometrist (Band 8A) to lead and develop the Optometry department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
The successful candidate will be joining the department at an exciting time when the specialty is looking to expand services both within core Optometry and in extended roles such as glaucoma and medical retina. The department is keen to hear from applicants who have substantial hospital Optometry experience and are excited and enthusiastic about developing patient centered care services.
The successful candidate must have substantial experience in working in a hospital Optometry contact lens fitting service. Previous service and people management experience is very desirable.
The department is looking for candidates who are able to work during the department’s core hours which are Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:00. Applicants should be aware that the department is working towards establishing services outside of core hours.
The successful candidate will join and will be expected to work alongside large Ophthalmology team consisting of consultant ophthalmologists, associate specialists, junior doctors, orthoptists, ophthalmic technicians and ophthalmology trained nurses. The department specialises in glaucoma, medical retina, neuro-ophthalmology, corneal and ocular plastics.
Applicants must be registered as an Optometrist with the General Optical Council.
