The School of Health Sciences and Social Work, University of Portsmouth, continues to expand its optometry provision to meet the eye care needs of the community and the professional needs of eye care providers in the south east. The school has a clear and ambitious vision for the future: to be a centre of excellence for simulated clinical education, innovation and research with excellent simulation facilities.
To help us achieve our vision, we are recruiting clinical supervising optometrists to operate within our new eye clinic, which is being developed to support the educational delivery of our undergraduate optometry programme.
Successful candidates will be optometrists who can effectively demonstrate and articulate appropriate clinical experience including support or supervision of optometry students in clinical practice. It is envisaged that this role will be filled on a part time basis by several optometrists, providing support to the clinical training and supervision of students and supporting research being undertaken within the University of Portsmouth Eye Clinic.
This role requires possession of a GOC recognised primary qualification in optometry or ophthalmic optics. You will be registered as an optometrist with the GOC and have held this registration for at least three years prior to application.
The University of Portsmouth Eye Clinic will be a facility providing specialist vision testing and clinical care directly to the community whilst supervising the learning experience of undergraduate Optometry students. To provide adequate supervision in addition to routine refractive practice, applicants must be confident in the provision of care in one (or more) of the following areas: paediatric eye care, orthoptics, contact lens provision, myopia control, low vision services, occupational vision, OCT and medical retina, glaucoma care, ocular surface disease and therapeutics.
We welcome and actively encourage informal visits to see the facilities for optometry education and discussion in relation to these posts. To arrange this, please contact Malcolm Maciver, Optometry Course Leader, School of Health Sciences and Social Work, email@example.com
